GIDS events and groups
These events are for young people and/or parents who have already attended their first session with GIDS. If you are on our waiting list, have not had your first session, but still wish to attend, please get in touch and we'll see if there is space at the specific event.
Our groups and events
We hold regular groups at the both for young people (aged 12+) and for parents at different points throughout the year.
Our groups are usually scheduled to coincide with the main school holidays. They aim to provide a place to meet others with similar experiences, to share stories, and to support each other.
We also hold several Family Days around the country: in Leeds, London and Exeter. The Family Days usually take place during the summer holidays. These days allow young people and their families to meet each other in a relaxed and friendly environment and to hear about other people's experiences of gender. There are talks from people who identify in different genders, as well as group sessions for parents/carers, teenagers, younger children, and siblings.
Our Soup Group (also known as our Stakeholders Group) is a fun and active group made up of young people who attend GIDS. The young people work with our staff to improve the experiences of those who use our service.
Groups in London
Our groups for parents and for young people (aged 12+) meet in London on various dates throughout the year at the Tavistock Centre. Both groups aim to provide a place to meet others with similar experiences, to share stories and support each other.
Our group for young people runs during the main school holidays. Our parents' group usually runs at the same time as the young people's group. It also meets on some additional dates, as some parents have told us that they find it easier to come outside of the school holidays.
Groups in Leeds
The group is open to young people aged 12-18 years who are currently being seen at the GIDS.
We usually meet during the school holidays. The group has been running since 2013 so some people will have already been to Transformers before, while others will be coming along for the first time.
Our family days have been running each year since 2013 in Leeds and 2014 in London and in the South West.
The days are open to all young people and their families who are currently being seen at GIDS.
The aim of the events is to allow young people and their families to meet each other in a relaxed and friendly environment. There will be talks from people who identify in different genders. There will also be group sessions for parents/carers, 11-18 year olds who attend the service, under 11 year olds, and siblings.
